Selling on Empik: commissions, requirements and whether it really pays off
For many businesses looking for another channel alongside Allegro, selling on Empik raises some obvious questions: how much does it cost, what are the requirements and who does it actually pay off for? For years, Empik Marketplace was associated mainly with books and CDs, but today it is the third-largest sales platform in Poland, with electronics, cosmetics, homeware and dozens of other categories.

In this article, we answer these questions head-on, using up-to-date figures. We cover the commissions, the entry requirements and how we at Raise Your Sales, as part of our Empik account management, assess whether a given product range makes sense on Empik.
What does selling on Empik Marketplace involve?
Selling on Empik Marketplace means listing your own products on Empik’s platform, alongside the shop’s own range, with no listing fee. You only pay once you make a sale. The model works much like Allegro: you set up a seller account, upload your listings, and the customer can see on the product page who the seller is.
The platform, now called EmpikPlace, has been running since 2017 and for a long time was associated with culture and entertainment. That is now a thing of the past. Today, Empik attracts millions of users every month and processes millions of orders a year, making it the third-biggest player in Polish e-commerce. Its greatest asset, however, is not sheer scale but the brand. Empik stands for recognition built up over decades, and some of that trust carries over to your listings. For a customer who is hesitating over a purchase, the logo of a well-known platform can be the deciding factor.
How much does selling on Empik cost? Commissions and fees
The cost of selling on Empik is the commission on each product sold, which ranges from 2.5% to 15.5% net depending on the category. There is no listing fee, no transaction fee and no subscription. That is the only mandatory cost, although it is worth adding logistics, returns and any advertising to your calculations.
An important detail: commission is charged on the gross value of the entire order, i.e. the product price plus the delivery cost including VAT. If you sell a product for PLN 200 with PLN 12 delivery, the commission base is PLN 212, not PLN 200. Below are indicative rates for selected categories, based on the commission schedule in force in 2026.
Category | Net commission (indicative) |
|---|---|
Electronics | approx. 9% |
Household appliances | approx. 12% |
Health and beauty | approx. 11% |
Home and garden | approx. 12% |
Toys | approx. 12% |
Sport and leisure | approx. 12% |
Gaming and software | approx. 8.5% |
Clothing | approx. 13% |
Books and music | approx. 5–12.5% |
Food | approx. 5.5% |
You can find the full commission schedule in the seller panel, as rates are updated from time to time and some categories (catering equipment, for example) are subject to additional amount-based limits. Empik usually offers new sellers a welcome promotion with reduced commission for the first few months.
What requirements do you need to meet to sell on Empik?
To sell on Empik, you need a business registered in a European Union country, you have to ship goods from within the EU, and the company itself should have been trading for at least three months. These are the main hard entry requirements. If your company is younger than that, you can still submit an application, and Empik will get back to you once that period is up.
In practice, this means Empik isn’t a platform for day one of a business, but the barrier to entry is low all the same. Account verification usually doesn’t take long, so the paperwork isn’t the real challenge here. What is worth remembering, though, is that you co-create the product page with the platform and that your listing reaches Empik’s customer base. So the real question isn’t whether you qualify, but whether your category and margin will let you make money once the commission is deducted. We come back to this later in the article.
How do you start selling on Empik, step by step?
Getting started on Empik comes down to a few simple steps, and the registration form itself takes just a few minutes. The difficulty lies not in the paperwork but in the quality of the listings you prepare. Here is the order to follow in practice.
- Set up a seller account by entering your company details and tax ID (NIP); the platform will pull some of the data from public registers.
- Fill in your contact details and information about your shop and shipping methods.
- Prepare your listings: descriptions, photos, prices and product variants.
- Accept the terms and conditions and complete verification, which usually doesn’t take long.
- Start selling and optimise your listings based on your first orders.
Step three takes up the most time, because the quality of your descriptions, photos and keywords determines whether customers find your product at all. If you already sell on other platforms, consider integrating through a system such as BaseLinker, which lets you manage your listings and stock levels in one place.
Which products are worth selling on Empik?
Selling on Empik pays off most in categories with medium and higher margins: electronics, homeware, toys or lifestyle products. With very low margins, the commission can eat up the entire profit, which is why we always calculate profitability for a specific product rather than for the platform as a whole.
Profitability is worth calculating for each specific product: the margin has to cover the commission and handling costs.Empik or Allegro – where does selling pay off more?
There is no single answer, because Empik and Allegro differ in scale and in the way costs are charged. Allegro has far more traffic and a wider choice of categories, but also fiercer price competition and an additional transaction fee. Empik is smaller in scale but has a stronger, more trusted brand and no transaction fee, with commission at a similar level.
In practice, it usually isn’t an either-or choice. The more sensible question is whether a given product will sell better on both platforms than on one. Channel diversification has been one of the pillars of our strategies at Raise Your Sales for years, because making all your sales dependent on a single platform is simply risky. A change to the algorithm or pricing policy on Allegro will hurt less if you have a working channel on Empik running in parallel. The final decision depends on your category, margin and the resources you can put into running two accounts at once.
Is it worth adding Empik as another sales channel?
Empik is worth considering once you already have established sales on Allegro, a margin that can absorb a commission in the low double digits and a product that fits the categories that sell best on Empik. It is a platform for growth and diversification rather than for launching a business.
It is also worth making use of the tools the platform offers newcomers: the Empik Premium programme, which is free for sellers, the welcome commission promotion and Empik Ads advertising charged per click. Before you upload your entire range, though, run the numbers on paper first: margin minus commission minus handling costs. The calculation takes an hour and saves you months of selling at a loss.
Summary
Selling on Empik Marketplace is a genuine option for an additional channel, though not for everyone and not for every product. Commission rates ranging from 2.5% to 15.5% net are in line with the market, there is no transaction fee or subscription, and the formal barrier is low: all you need is an EU company that has been trading for at least three months. Profitability, however, is not decided by the platform itself, but by how well your range matches the customers who shop there, and by whether your margin has room for one more percentage-based cost.
