When Allegro introduced product linking via the Product Catalogue, it had one clear goal: to organise and standardise listings across the marketplace. Thanks to this system, customers can find exactly what they’re looking for much faster and with greater precision. For sellers, this catalogue system saves hours previously spent on tedious, manual listing creation, freeing you up to focus on other competitive areas, such as improving customer service or offering better purchasing terms. As a general rule, Allegro makes it mandatory to link your offers to the Product Catalogue, though there are a few specific categories exempt from this requirement.
What is the purpose of the Allegro Product Catalogue?
The Allegro Product Catalogue is one of the most significant marketplace updates rolled out in recent years. Essentially, it standardises listings by linking individual seller offers to a single, master product page in Allegro’s database that shares the exact same parameters. The ultimate aim is to streamline the sales process, allowing for quicker listing creation, better inventory management, and a seamless shopping experience for users.
Every product has unique identifiers, including a manufacturer code or an EAN, which makes it easy to match your offer with the correct product card. Allegro groups offers from various sellers into the Product Catalogue based on parameters such as:
- Product brand
- Model
- Manufacturer code
- GTIN (EAN, ISBN, or ISSN)
Mandatory product linking to the catalogue
As of 1 July 2024, Allegro made it mandatory to link all listings to the Allegro Product Catalogue across the vast majority of its categories. However, there are exceptions where linking is not required. Examples of categories excluded from this rule include:
- Collections and art
- Handcrafted items
- Automotive – Cars
- Automotive – Motorcycles and quads
- Automotive – Machinery
- Automotive – Trailers and semi-trailers
- Automotive – Other vehicles and boats
- Real estate
- Business and services – Services
- Business and services – Live animals
- Business and services – Online courses
Note: A full list of products exempt from catalogue linking can be found here.
The role of EAN codes in product linking
The EAN code is the cornerstone of the Allegro Product Catalogue. It allows for the precise identification of an item within Allegro’s database, which is absolutely crucial for accurate linking. If your product doesn’t have an EAN, you can still manually input the product’s parameters.
Product catalogues – organising the offer view
A core feature of the Allegro Product Catalogue is the ability to connect offers. Sellers can either link their listings to existing products in Allegro’s database or create entirely new product cards if the item hasn’t been listed on the marketplace yet.
This system ensures a much cleaner and more manageable platform. By standardising listings, data is better organised, which directly boosts seller efficiency and improves the overall customer journey.
How to link a product to the catalogue
To link an existing listing to the Allegro Product Catalogue, navigate to your account settings in the seller dashboard. Search for the relevant item in your assortment using its name, EAN, or other identifiers. Next, click the three dots in the top right corner of the offer, select Link with product, and search by EAN for the catalogue item you want to link to. Doing this ensures your listing is fully optimised and much easier for buyers to find.
If you manage a large volume of inventory, we highly recommend automating this process using the API or by uploading files directly via the Sales Center.
Editing the Allegro Product Catalogue
Editing products has become much simpler thanks to Allegro’s integrated tools. You can now tweak product parameters swiftly, allowing for smoother listing management.
To request changes to a product in the catalogue, head over to the Sales Center. Under the My assortment tab, search for the item and use the Manage catalogue data feature to suggest new values for any incorrect parameters. From this dashboard, you can also:
- View product details – check the key catalogue parameters assigned to an item based on its EAN.
- List another offer with the same product – this is a great way to expand your reach. Creating a second listing for the same item allows you to test how different keywords in your title and description impact traffic and conversion rates, as well as see how your offer ranks against competitors sharing the same catalogue card.
- Report a catalogue error – if any parameter on the current product card is incorrect, you can easily suggest an amendment.
- Change the linked product – use this if you’ve accidentally linked your listing to the wrong item in the Allegro Product Catalogue.
Who benefits from the Allegro Product Catalogue?
Standardising listings on Allegro significantly elevates the platform’s quality and boosts customer satisfaction. The Allegro Product Catalogue makes it easier and faster to match offers with buyer intent, translating into higher conversion rates and better sales performance. Furthermore, keeping the catalogue neat makes it a breeze for buyers to compare offers, supporting both sellers and customers in hitting their respective goals.
Benefits for Allegro sellers
The Product Catalogue takes the headache out of inventory management and drastically speeds up the listing process. In your Allegro settings, you can easily adjust listing parameters. Once you input the EAN, Allegro automatically redirects you to a pre-filled product card complete with technical specs and a gallery. All you need to do is add your own description, and your listing is good to go. This massive time-saver allows you to shift your focus towards optimising your e-commerce strategy, fine-tuning your logistics, and delivering top-tier customer service.
Moreover, linked offers are far more transparent. By connecting your listings to the master product in the Allegro Product Catalogue, you eliminate the risk of mismatched product titles, conflicting technical data, or confusing descriptions.
Advantages for buyers
Shoppers on Allegro get to enjoy a much more consistent and transparent browsing experience. Product cards display all the essential information in one place, including the manufacturer code and EAN, which helps them make purchasing decisions much faster. Through the Product Catalogue, Allegro ensures a premium online shopping experience.
When browsing a catalogue page, the most attractive offer is prominently featured at the top – similar to the Amazon Buy Box. Allegro’s algorithm selects this top offer based on several factors:
- Price: Keep in mind, the absolute cheapest product isn’t always the one that wins the top spot.
- Offer quality: Accurate parameters, a detailed description crafted to answer common buyer questions, and the number of units already sold in a specific offer are key to success.
- Allegro sales quality metrics: Customer reviews, dispatch times, payment options, available couriers, Allegro Smart! eligibility, and promoted listings all play a part.
Buyers can also sort all the sellers offering a specific item by:
- Lowest price (this is the default sorting option).
- Fastest delivery.
Summary
The Allegro Product Catalogue is a huge leap towards modern, efficient marketplace management. Features like product linking, parameter management, and quick listing edits empower sellers to run their operations much more smoothly. It’s definitely worth keeping an eye on how this feature evolves to make the most of its potential.
